HEAT EXCHANGING DESIGN
Plate fin heat exchanger
A plate-fin heat exchanger is a type of heat exchanger design that uses plates and finned chambers to transfer heat between fluids, most commonly gases. It is often categorized as a compact heat exchanger to emphasize its relatively high heat transfer surface area to volume ratio.
Micro heat exchanger
Micro scale heat exchanger; Microstructured heat exchanger; Microchannel heat exchangers; Microchannel heat exchanger; Microchannel condenser; Microchannel evaporator
Micro heat exchangers, Micro-scale heat exchangers, or microstructured heat exchangers are heat exchangers in which (at least one) fluid flows in lateral confinements with typical dimensions below 1 mm. The most typical such confinement are microchannels, which are channels with a hydraulic diameter below 1 mm.

Heat exchanger

A heat exchanger is a system used to transfer heat between a source and a working fluid. Heat exchangers are used in both cooling and heating processes. The fluids may be separated by a solid wall to prevent mixing or they may be in direct contact. They are widely used in space heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, power stations, chemical plants, petrochemical plants, petroleum refineries, natural-gas processing, and sewage treatment. The classic example of a heat exchanger is found in an internal combustion engine in which a circulating fluid known as engine coolant flows through radiator coils and air flows past the coils, which cools the coolant and heats the incoming air. Another example is the heat sink, which is a passive heat exchanger that transfers the heat generated by an electronic or a mechanical device to a fluid medium, often air or a liquid coolant.

2. The return of shuttle Discovery, which brought new U.S. spacesuits, to orbit in July combined with a newly installed heat exchanger on the airlock has allowed the crew to again attempt an exit from the U.S. side.
3. The nitrogen was found, and the subterranean heat exchanger built, but by mid–May the temperature of the core had dropped to 270C; the exchanger was never even turned on. ‘The miners died for nothing,‘ says Prianichnikov. ‘Everything we did was a waste of time.‘ When I ask him if he received any recognition for what he did, Prianichnikov smiles darkly. ‘I didn‘t go to court, and I wasn‘t put in prison.

5. At that moment, there would be another explosion, exponentially more devastating than the first; the three remaining reactors would be destroyed in a nuclear blast that would render Ukraine, Belarus and Russia uninhabitable for decades to come. That was the most terrifying thing, says Veniamin Prianichnikov. We were petrified of meltdown, walking around like zombies. A plan was devised: to freeze the earth around the reactor with liquid nitrogen, and then build a heat exchanger in the ground beneath it to cool the core and prevent meltdown.
